Ao longo dos últimos dias, tem sido impossível ouvir ou descarregar Miss Tapes. A causa parece estar numa manutenção interminável que o sítio podomatic tem levado a cabo. Neste momento, apenas no sítio Miss Tapes A se encontram disponíveis podcasts, sendo que os conteúdos dos restantes cinco desapareceram. Já procurei saber o que aconteceu junto da administração do sítio podomatic, mas nenhuma resposta útil me foi dada.
Adenda no dia 16: o sítio podomatic terminou a manutenção. Perdi a maior parte das edições que estavam nas Miss Tapes B, C, D e E. Durante os próximos tempos vou dedicar-me a fazer uploads para um sítio mais seguro e a esperar que isto não se repita.

Durante uns tempos, chamou-se John Walker. Formou os Walker Brothers juntamente com Gary e Scott. A história é mais ou menos conhecida. De êxito atrás de êxito ("The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore", "Make it Easy on Yourself", "Another Tear Falls", etc.) até à banda se desintegrar, muito à custa das maiores ambições de Scott Engel, doravante apenas conhecido como Scott Walker - o nome de uma família que nunca o fôra. Scott prosseguiu e gravou álbuns a solo, afastando-se da pop ora luminosa, ora melosa dos Brothers, ensombrado por Jacques Brel e por Ingmar Bergman. Gravou discos até 1974. Depois esteve dez anos no silêncio, mas nem por isso as pessoas o esqueceram. Contaram-se histórias de álcool, drogas e reclusão em mosteiros. Voltou momentaneamente ao mundo dos vivos em 1984 com o disco "The Climate of the Hunter", mas um novo interregno, desta vez de onze anos, haveria de acontecer. Em 1995, surgiu com "Tilt". A história que se seguiu é mais ou menos conhecida.
Não sei se Jonh Maus passou pelo mesmo ou por algo parecido com o que Scott passou. Parece. A história é mais ou menos desconhecida. Seja lá o que isso quer dizer, Maus é o único membro dos Walker Brothers que não tem direito a uma entrada na Wikipedia. Aparentemente vive no Hawaii e está para lançar o disco "Love is Real". A sua música, que toca na Miss Tape #41, convoca traços da pop cândida dos Walker Brothers e daquele tempo (anos 60 e 70), mas há uma atmosfera carregada, sintetizadores pesados que se distendem e distorcem, uma voz distante e ao mesmo tempo profunda. Estranheza.
Não sei por que vias, uma suposta carta escrita por uma antiga namorada de Maus foi publicada na Internet. A missiva, um objecto de grande ressentimento, é, curiosamente, um dos únicos que pode ser encontrado acerca de Maus na grande rede. Um primor no amor, este John. Inesquecível:
"You were a horrible boyfriend, abusive, manipulative, a liar, pitiful in your existence, and NO you didn't encourage me but rather saw some thing in me that you felt the NEED to chip away at, a constant chipping away of my soul. [...] Your words, the one source of power you have, are hollow and impotent because you are crippled, unable to act on your words. Your actions or rather non-action blow your words into dust. Barely barely barely did you ever do anything for me while we were together that revealed a concern you might have for my happiness. Even a small instance like requesting a candied apple, a treat, provoked in you a need to make some insulting remark towards me equating me with a dog."
